Last Saturday I visited a big store and bought the special edition-DVD for the movie V for Vendetta. It is a very good movie, but thats not what this topic is about. In the movie, the main character V, made a very good looking breakfast for a girl named Evey.
Another person in the movie mentioned that it was called Eggy in a Basket. Since the dish looked quite tasty, I decided to look up the recipe on google and have a go for it myself. After having tried it, Im convinced: Eggy in a Basket rules! The best part of it is, that its amazingly simple to make.
What do we need to make it?
- 1 slice of bread (white bread seems to be the best choice).
- 1 egg
- Some real butter. In Holland we call it Roomboter.
- A frying pan.
- Some salt & pepper to fit your taste.
Take the slice of bread and cut a big hole in it. Now butter up both sides of the slice, toss it into the frying pan and heat it up. As soon as the bottom of the slice is nice and crispy, and the butter on the top is properly melted, turn the slice over. Break the egg and carefully put it in the hole. Now, turn the heat down a little, because we dont want the bread to burn. As soon as the egg is ready (this could take some time, since the egg is a bit thicker than usual), put it on a plate, add some salt & pepper to it and bonne apetit!
In the movie, Evey mentioned that she could taste the butter, and she was not lying. When making this dish, the choice of butter will really make a difference. So if you want the full goodness, use real butter!
