I've decided to merge my old website (http://www.allodox.nl) and my new/current website (http://www.ajira.eu) together. I haven't identified as AllodoX for nearly 2 years now, but I don't want to just forget and scrap my past; It's part of who I am today, so it deserves a place.
I've rebuilt most of the site from scratch (still some work left...), and added all the old content to it. The old content is posted by the user AllodoX, and the new/future content will be posted by the user Ajira. Don't worry... I'm still the same person, just with a new/different style
A little overview of what's on the site:
- Home - the page you first saw. This is the news/blog area.
- Projects - here I'll post writings, tutorials and information about projects I'm working on.
- Photos - speaks for itself, I guess... Just photo's of me, photos made by me and/or screenshots of games I'm active in.
- FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions. Here you can ask me pretty much any question - there are exceptions of course - and I will try to answer them.
- Downloads - Here you can download files that are associated to the projects section.
- Sitemap - a quick overview of what's on the site.
As I was browsing through some old backups, I ran across a couple of old video clips that I made in my early days of World of Warcraft. *sigh* Brings back good memories Let's see what we've got...
First we have the early beta period... together with my buddy Kilmir (who was also an old guildie from Everquest), we eplored the wonderous lands of Kalimdor. It had just gone live in the Beta, so it was all new and exciting. I also ventured deep into the bellows of the Deathmines.
Next up, we have more beta material, but in a later stage of the beta. I explored various places and a dungeon called "Blackphantom Deeps" with my rogue alt. I already decided that my main character would be a priest (I've always played healers in MMORPG, it's what i do best ), but i wanted to give the rogue a try in the betas.
This video is actually a live recording of the very first Lucifron (the first boss monster in a dungeon called "Molten Core") killing by Cantonium Elites, one of my Guilds in WoW. And uhmm... my apologies in advance for the music. This kind of music kept me awake during late-night raids that could last for hours If you're into this stuff, though... the song is called "Visions of Sound" by Amp Attack.
And lastly, we have some dancing ogres In the alphas, betas and early versions of WoW, the ogres looked differently. In one of the later patches they changed the graphics of the ogres, and gave them a very uhm... "cheery" dancing lesson These ogres were found dancing in the North side dungeon of Dire Maul.
Last Saturday I visited a big store and bought the special edition-DVD for the movie "V for Vendetta". It is a very good movie, but that's not what this topic is about. In the movie, the main character "V", made a very good looking breakfast for a girl named Evey.
Another person in the movie mentioned that it was called "Eggy in a Basket". Since the dish looked quite tasty, I decided to look up the recipe on google and have a go for it myself. After having tried it, I'm convinced: Eggy in a Basket rules! The best part of it is, that it's amazingly simple to make.
What do we need to make it?
- 1 slice of bread (white bread seems to be the best choice).
- 1 egg
- Some "real" butter. In Holland we call it "Roomboter".
- A frying pan.
- Some salt & pepper to fit your taste.
Take the slice of bread and cut a big hole in it. Now butter up both sides of the slice, toss it into the frying pan and heat it up. As soon as the bottom of the slice is nice and crispy, and the butter on the top is properly melted, turn the slice over. Break the egg and carefully put it in the hole. Now, turn the heat down a little, because we don't want the bread to burn. As soon as the egg is ready (this could take some time, since the egg is a bit thicker than usual), put it on a plate, add some salt & pepper to it and bonne apetit!
In the movie, Evey mentioned that she could taste the butter, and she was not lying. When making this dish, the choice of butter will really make a difference. So if you want the full goodness, use real butter!
How can you tell that your MMORPG is the world's greatest? Sure, Blizzard rakes in a whopping 78 million each month, but as soon as even the porn industry tries to snag a cut, you know you've hit the jackpot.
Recently I stumbled upon a website called "Whores of Warcraft". Apparently they're planning to make a lot of Warcraft-themed photo shoots and porn movies in the near future. Can't wait to take a peek, this ought to be good
Update, April 2nd, 2008: Apparently they got into some copyright problems with Blizzard, so they renamed the site to Whore Lore.
It's been a while since I posted something here, but then again I've been real busy? A small update.
World of Warcraft.. Things didn't work out with Chronicles of Chaos, and so a couple of friends and me decided to start our own guild called "Infuse". We've been doing it for about a month and a half now, and we've got a nice team of 63 individuals and raid 5 or 6 days a week. Of course we're not "Uber" yet, but we're getting there.
Job. The company I work for moved to another location. We're now sharing office space with a company that does maintenance and repairs on Ferrari's, Maserati's, Bentleys, etc. In other words: cool toys.
Transport. My Jincheng is now painted pitch-black with chrome and gold colored details. I'll post some photos when the weather gets better. Also, I bought a new car! It's a silver colored Suzuki Baleno 1.6 GLX Estate (station car), the exact same type as I used to drive when I worked for Fujitsu; except that one was blue. It has all I need, including an air conditioner, a shitload of space and very comfy seats.
Winter... Ah yes, winter... and of course I'm sick again; it's almost becoming tradition... Lips all swollen and broken, stomach ache, green apple splatters and the nose... well... My nose is a mystery of its own... one day it's all right, the next day it's running like a wild river... I don't mind the runny nose, but I'd almost start to believe I'm allergic to my own mucus... whenever I have a runny nose I have to sneeze a lot, and I get tears in my eyes. Yep... I alone keep the tissue-industry at bay
Sunday afternoon i returned to World of Warcraft after a short 6-week break. I joined the guild "Chronicles of Chaos, which is a fairly active raiding guild. about 5 minutes after i joined them i was invited to my first raid, which led me strait to the 2nd boss in the endgame dungeon "Blackwing Lair". As of this writing i've been a member of Chronicles of Chaos for about a day and a half, and already i've experienced more adventures than i could have ever imagined. Hell yeah
When I launched Guildwars today, I was welcomed with a fresh, new login screen that it just looks amazing! They also made some changes to the User Interface, and it runs a bit smoother too. I'm running Guildwars in 1610x1050 pixels, and to use Steve Jobs' words: "It scrolls like butter". Can't wait till the new content update goes live in a couple of weeks.
Intel recently released a toolkit for Apple developers to make full use of the Dual Core processors that are being used in the new iMac and MacBook Pro. The final retail versions of the tools will be available in April or May, and will probably cost a fortune. In the meanwhile, Intel has launched a developer program where free Beta versions of the Math Kernel Libraries, Integrated Performance Primitives, a Fortran Compiler (Holy crap, they still use Fortran nowadays? ) and a C++ Compiler can be downloaded.
To support migrating developers, Intel launched a special online service. They're sure making a lot of work out of it.
Apparently, Sony isn't the only mainstream company that is using root kit technology in their software. According Mark Russinovich, the guy who discovered Sony's root kit, anti-virus software by both Symantec and Kaspersky also uses root kit technology.
Symantec has been using this technology in their "System works" package since 1990 to hide backup files. They claim that it is done to prevent users from accidentally removing the backup files. On the one hand I can imagine and respect that they want to protect their customers from screwing up their system, but on the other hand it also provides a service to people that want to hide their spy ware, etc. Anyway, Symantec released a patch that makes the hidden files visible again.
Kaspersky Anti Virus uses root kit techniques to hide checksum-information. The software uses this information to verify what files have been scanned, and what files haven't been scanned yet. They claim that it is impossible for third-party software makers to use the technology; although many companies made those claims before and they all failed miserably
