Neighbors… ah yes... neighbors… No, I’m not talking about the Australian soap opera in which the ever charming Kylie Minogue played the role of Charlene Robinson. I’m talking about neighbors that wake you up at 05:00 o’clock, because father and son have to roll around in the backyard while beating each other up. Oh how I love my neighbors.
It’s a recurring event. Father has a bit too much to drink, and his juvenile delinquent son comes home baked and drunk at 05:00. The “fun” part about this family is that for some reason they always fight in the backyard, so that the entire block can join in on the party. Then when the shouting in the back yard is done, they go inside and you can hear a lot of furniture being shoved around and people cursing and fighting.
Why this always has to happen between 03:00 and 05:00, I still haven’t figured out. Apparently they don’t have jobs they need to go to in the morning. Apparently someone called the cops, because they showed up with a grand total of 3 squad cars a bit later. I’ll see if I can record some audio next time they fight.
... And that’s just what they’ll do! My old shoes were rather (read: extremely) worn down, so it was time to get some new tires. The criteria ? Must fit my personality, must be black (also part of the first requisite), and must be comfy.
I’ve always been a big fan of New Rock shoes. They’re made in Spain, and just look smashing. My eye fell on the 710-S1 model, as displayed below.
They’re well crafted and extremely comfy. Even though they’re sturdy as hell, and look badass, once you wear them you don’t even notice that... they feel just like some comfy slippers. It’s just such a good feeling to find a shoe that is a perfect fit right from the box.
They’re not cheap (€ 199,-), but they’re worth every cent.

As Domino’s Pizza puts it: “Man hungry? Ding dong, Pizza !” As I was pondering on what to have for dinner, my coworker Oscar suggested Pizza. Hmmm… pizza… I love pizza! The only problem is that the Pizza parlor where I usually order my stuff is getting a bit sloppy, and the prices seem to go up on a daily basis; time to try something else!
I came across a site that provides the possibility to search for restaurants in your area that do deliveries. You can order the food on the site, and the site e-mails your order to the restaurant. This is a nice solution for restaurants that don’t have a website of their own. I browsed the site a bit and came across a place called Eetcafé Rafael.
The site said “Monday, pizza day! All medium pizza’s for € 6,-”. I had no idea how large a medium pizza would be, so I took a calzone pizza instead. My eye fell to the “Calzone Supreme”, which is a calzone pizza with shawarma meat as stuffing, which set me back € 11,50. About 30 seconds later I received an E-mail from the website, telling my that my order was placed.
About 40 minutes later, the pizza arrived. At first I was shocked at the size of the thing (it was friggin’ huge!), but later on it turned out to be a good thing: at the first bite I nearly had a culinary orgasm. Ho...ly... shit, that thing tasted good. Sometimes, when you get a calzone pizza, the bottom is a bit soggy due to the fats and tomato sauce; but with this pizza that was absolutely not the case. shawarma meat is pretty greasy by nature, but the stuffing of this pizza was just perfect. Hardly any grease, just tasty and tender meat.
Without doubt, I can say that this was the best pizza I ever had. I will definitely order at the restaurant again, and will recommend them to anyone. Eetcafé Rafael, you guys rock!
I’ve always hated birthdays, especially my own. On a rainy Tuesday in 1978, at approximately 7:30am, I spawned into this world. Today, it is my 30th Birthday, but I’m not too happy with it.
It reminds me that I’ve been trapped in the wrong body for 3 decades now, which makes me sad and angry at the same time; it’s quite traumatizing. It also gave me a firm wake-up call, and an “all systems go!”-signal. I’m definitely going to kick the transition in a higher gear now... 30 years of trauma is more than enough in my opinion, and I’ve decided that this will definitely be “his” last birthday; Next year will be my first real birthday. Next year, I will celebrate my birthday as my true, female self.
I’m a person that likes consistency and certainty. I don’t take many risks, and I never gamble. Actually… I’m not too fond of gambling as a whole; especially if it’s done by somebody else that is using my money.
This morning, on the way to work, I stopped by an ATM to grab some lunch money. I punched in my security code, and checked my balance. I was quite surprised to see that my balance was about 300 Euro lower than I expected it to be. I scratched my head a bit and tried to remember what I might have purchased in the last few days that is worth 300 euro.
When I came home and opened the mail from the credit card company, I found my answer. There was a transaction of 329 euro from “pstars.com”. The envelope also had a letter in it from the credit card company, stating that my credit card was blocked and with a request that I give them a call to verify some transactions.
It turns out that “pstars.com” is used by an internet poker website, and my credit card was used to purchase 500 US Dollar worth of credit for internet poker. This seemed suspicious to the credit card company, because over the last 3 years all my credit card was used for was Second Life, World of Warcraft and the rent of my web server. I don’t gamble, and my poker skills suck ass; why would I spend 329 bucks on a poker site ? It doesn’t really make sense, does it ? The credit card company will send me a form which I can fill out to verify that the transaction was invalid. The credit card company will refund my 329 euro, and try to hunt down whoever tried to steal it.
It seems that I’ve become the victim of a credit card fraud. 3 days before the poker site made its transaction, I bought a game for my mobile phone on clickgamer.com, using my credit card. I don’t know if the website was hacked or if the owners of the website are scammers; but this is the only thing that I can think of where it went wrong. I’ve had a VISA card for 9 years, paid for a lot of stuff online with it and never had issues. I’ve got a MasterCard since 3 years, paid for a lot of stuff and never had issues up until now.
In general I still think it’s safe to buy stuff using credit cards, but there are always some assholes that will try to steal from you. Life can be quite shitty sometimes…
About a year ago I made a decision (more on that in the “FAQ” section when the time is right), and part of that decision was to grow my hair. It’s grown quite a bit, and normally I just let it hang loose (head banger style), or I fold it back and wear a hair band.
Today I was experimenting a bit with hairdo’s, and made some primitive pigtails! Looks quite funny, and I kind of like them, but making the “split” in the middle and getting them both at the same height is quite a bit harder than you might think. Can’t wait to have my hair go even longer so I can make some proper pigtails... hell, I might even put some braids in them.
A new beginning, a new job! Today I signed the contract for my new job.
2 weeks ago I saw an ad on a national job website for system administrator/web developer. Since both of those jobs appeal to me, I applied and got an invitation.
The meeting was with two guys who run a recruitment agency, and we agreed to meet Tuesday at a McDonald’s restaurant (geez, what a place for a job interview
). The guys liked what they saw and heard, and so they introduced me to the company that hired them to recruit a system administrator/web developer.
The next Friday I was invited for an interview at the company, and after the interview I had a real good feeling. Apparently that feeling was mutual, because yesterday I got the good news that the company wanted to offer me a contract for 6 months
. After reading through the proposition, I agreed to sign the contract, which happened today.
So... a little info about my new employer: It’s a really big web shop called ACES Direct (http://www.acesdirect.nl). It’s a fast growing company, and the majority of people that work there are about my age. My job will be mostly the internal system administration, and a little PHP-based web development on the side; but as the company gets bigger the PHP stuff will probably become less and less, since the system administration will take up more time.
My first workday is May 12th.
